My case that PC Load letter is a pretty alright error. Printers have always been frustrating mixes of hardware and software and the "PC LOAD LETTER" message had at least isolated the hardware problem, which is pretty good expert system work for whatever little board was controlling the printer and its thousands of parts, and _tried_ to inform the user how to use its biomechanics to fix the problem. (The user needed to get to the *P*aper *C*assette and *load* some *letter* sized paper in.) A better designed error message that might have been "I NEED PAPER", and that would also have fit on the tiny screen.
